BRIEF HISTORY
Members
of the Club are mostly employees of Petron Bataan Refinery, Alstom Power Plant,
Municipal and Provincial Government as well as private individuals resident of
Limay and adjoining towns of Orion, Pilar and Balanga, Bataan.
Limay,
Bataan is located at the western side of Manila Bay, about 40 km across the bay
and 125 km by land. Limay is the host town of Petron Bataan Refinery, the
largest oil refinery in the Philippines. Limay is not only a farming and
fishing town but also host to power and petrochemical industries. The town has
a population of about 80,000.
On
February 13, 1996, The Rotary Club of Orion voted to form and sponsor a new
Rotary Club in Limay, Bataan. Limay as host to many industries holds a promise
to be one of the most dynamic and most active Rotary Club with potential
members from different industries.
On March
22, 1996 the club's application for membership in Rotary International was
completed and submitted to the Governor of District 3790. The man behind the
formation of the Rotary Club of Limay were the officers and members of the
Rotary Club of Orion headed by its Charter President Romy Tumalad.
On April
2, 1996, with an initial 28 members, the membership of Rotary Club of Limay was
approved. Its officers and members headed by the Charter President Benny Somo
was officially inducted with the presence of District Governor Nelson Y.
