STORY TELLING FOR LITERACY MONTH

Department of Education has a monthly activities for the whole year, and this month of November is the Literacy Month. During this month schools in the Philippines are conducting a Book Reading or Story Telling to their students. As always Rotary Club of Limay and its pool of Rotarians who are also educators tap the club to hold a Book Reading every year.

We gather students from Grades 1-3 to hear a story with illustrations made for the activity. Rtn Gerald and Rtn Ariane held a simultaneous book reading at Bliss Elementary and St. Francis II Elementary Schools. The stories were picked due to its moral lessons that the kids will remember while they are growing up.

Alamat ng Duhat tells the story of a girl who grew up differently among her tribe due to her white skin, when her lover is confused with the parents she had, he left her and cursed the skin she had and ask the sun to turn her like her people until she died. There sprung the Duhat tree where she was buried. It tells the lesson of not judging the person by the colour of their skin until they don't know who they are. This is the lesson the students learn on their morning story telling.
